July 22 - Back to England

We began our last day in France with a leisurely stroll through the grounds of the chateau, winding our way through forests and paddocks, and over the many eighteenth century bridges (like this one). It was very idyllic, and gave us a nice chance to stretch our legs before sitting in the car all day.

We left Vadancourt in good time and took a quick detour to the Boulogne Eastern Cemetery, where we paid our respects to my Great, Great Uncle, who died there during the First World War.

After one final stop for the day at the Cité Europe (a terrifyingly large shopping mall) we boarded the ferry for the return journey to England. It was largely uneventful, though we did get a lovely view of the White Cliffs at sunset.

After another fabulous dinner at my aunt and uncle’s we drove the short distance to our next bed and breakfast, Lamberden Cottage. It too is very comfortable, and Julia and I even get to share a clown-themed room - what fun!
